We develop and produce pea protein TVP (Textured Vegetable Protein) and HME (High-Moisture Extrusion) which serve as functional plant-based core ingredients both for human-grade gourmet foods and premium pet foods.
Convenient-to-use and essentially ready-to-consume, our TVP and HME require no intensive thermal processing while delivering an outstanding texture, authentic mouthfeel, and a delicious taste experience.
The versatility of THORMI TVP and HME covers a wide range of applications:
Pulled and shredded-style products, sauces, grill and BBQ solutions, burger patties, minced-meat-style products, pâtés, sausages, nuggets, dumplings, customised pizza toppings and wrap/burrito concepts, as well as warm and cold salad components.
THORMI HME technology represents the future of clean-label plant-based food - creating fibrous and juicy textures without the need for additives or binders.
All THORMI products are 100% GMO-free, allergen-free, and rich in high-quality plant protein.
Pea protein is our primary raw material. Beyond its excellent nutritional profile, peas are a vital rotational crop in European agriculture, naturally improving soil fertility and reducing the need for pesticides and fertilisers. Unlike animal farming, which contributes to greenhouse gas emissions, deforestation, and animal suffering, peas provide a sustainable and ethical alternative. By choosing peas, we actively support environmental sustainability, biodiversity, and animal welfare. This makes our products not only healthy for people and pets, but also kinder to animals and better for the planet.
Our process is also capable of extruding other proteins - although we prefer to keep our production environment clean from gluten and common allergens.
Our unique HME-based "Chickenless" product line has been a great success in both Estonia and Finland (known as "Kanatu" in Estonia and "Kanaton" in Finland). We are proud that our “Shredded Chickenless in Coconut-Curry Sauce” received the Gulfood Innovation Award 2025 🏆 in Dubai, winning in the Best Ready-to-Eat Product category - a strong international recognition for Nordic plant-based excellence made in Estonia.
At FI we will also be unveiling, for the very first time, our new Functional Pea Starch (FPS), capable of binding over 7 litres of water per 1 kg - delivering unmatched hydration power and texture stability.
